Safety Precautions
While maintaining your vehicle is important, there’s nothing more important than your safety. If you’re going to work on your car or truck, please follow these general safety guidelines. You can find information on maintenance and service procedures in your Owner’s Guide. See Glove Box Manuals to download a copy ofyour vehicle Owner’s Guide.
Choose a maintenance topic from the list below.
- Do not work on a hot engine.
- If you don’t need the engine on, turn it off.
- Many cooling fans are automatic and can engage even with the
engine off. To disable it, disconnect the negative battery terminal
before working near the fan.
Important:
Some preset engine control conditions (such as idle) may need to be reset
if battery power is interrupted. You may also need to reset the clock and
radio. Be certain to consult your vehicle Owner’s Guide for the
correct procedure. See

enclosed space unless it is well ventilated.
- Keep all lit cigarettes, open flames and other lit material away
from the battery and all fuel-related parts.
- Set the parking brake and ensure the gearshift is securely
latched in park.
- Block a tire to prevent the vehicle from rolling
unexpectedly.

remove the air cleaner with the engine running.
